She moved to Italy in 1979 and lives in Bologna. Gabriella founded a magazine about emigration ''El Ghibli''〔(el-ghibli reference to Gabriella Ghermandi, with excerpts from her works )〕 and was the artistic manager of the Festival ''Evocamondi'', dealing with musics and writings from the world of her city Bologna. She works (using "metafore") in theater activities (like in the ''Atse Tewodros Project'') about Ethiopian identity and literature.
